Can you have a content type that is set up as a "content profile" and enter content but not attach it to a profile?

Background.... I'm building a site for an organization. The organization wants members to be able to log in to access various content. But, they aren't requiring it... The problem is that they want a members directory as well. I want those that log in to be able to update their information so I'm using this module. I've created a CCK type called "Member Info" with name, address, phone, etc. and checked the "content profile" checkbox. But, for those that don't log in, I still want to be able to create a "Member Info" content type that isn't attached to any profile but can still appear in the directory. It's requiring the "author" field though. If I leave blank it will attach Anonymous to it. This would be an acceptable solution except that it only allows one "Member Info" to be left blank. Is it possible to achieve what I'm wanting?
