archivist from #mysql reported that http://pastebin.ca/1228493 is a lot faster if you add a single STRAIGHT_JOIN to the SELECT http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/select.html

Also, "other important comment is the join needs ordering smallest result set left to largest right"
