Description
Hi,
I have just tested this module on my site and even though this module is not complete and not maintained any more, i consider this module amazing..especially gcg_taxonomy.
Is there any chance of a revival of this project?
I can contribute some money to get this project on the road again quickly
Otherwise can someone guide me as to how I can implement the functionality of this module using other existing location modules

Hi, I just took over this module on Michelle's request, check back in a couple weeks, I should have it back into shape by then.

Many Many thanks to you Bdragon and also to Michelle
Let me know if I can help in any way - testing etc

As this module and location are obviously "competitors" and many prefer GCG in both UI and overall functionality but without views integration and multiple addresses per node, what are your plans for it bdragon? Personally I really like this module and it with multiple addresses and views integration for useful directory style listings would meet all my needs.
I very recently discussed this module with Istvan (xmarket) and he says he has a new version coming out soon that will have much of the functionality that people have been asking for. Have you discussed this with him? or have his plans died out?
Thanks for your input and help!

I have not discussed this with xmarket, no.
I took over maintainership mainly becuase of the notice of abandonment in #255631: Project closed and restarted.
I'm mainly concerned with A) making sure people don' t end up with difficult to upgrade sites due to abandoned modules, and B) Helping reduce code duplication across the board.
Due to the differences in how stuff is stored, I'm pretty sure the only actual code duplication is lat/lon handling. I have not had sufficient time to get familiar with the code though. I don't have any plans though, and would love to see the new version come out before I invest significant time tuning up the old version. ;)
(For reference, the future plan with Location.module is to use geo.module apis to handle all the lat/lon parts. I'd recommend that other modules follow suit once geo is finished...)

Well I think the question then is which module or combination of modules can replicate the functionality of GCG?
My needs which gcg seems to fulfil are
1) User be able to search for a location and if a match is found the location is updated on a map as well as correct address gets auto populated
2) When user submits the content if those areas already exist then do nothing with the taxonomy else if content in a new locality has been added then update taxonomy with the locality in a relationship kind of manner
3)Display appropriate map for node view
I know most of the location modules can do 1) and 3)
2) is where I think this module really excels in.
But as has been mentioned already in this post: the drawbacks of this module are
a) No views support
b) No search within a radius functionality
c) Not ready for a production use
If these get fixed, I am sure this module will rule.

Hi bdragon,
Did you manage to have any further look at the code?
Also,do you think combination of location and gmap or some other module can meet requirements I highlighted in comment #5 above
#7
OK, rather than create a new issue, I'll comment here:
We seem to have three forks to GMaps functionality:
1) Location (also maintained by bdragon)
2) GCG
3) Gmaps (a "restart" by xmarket)
This situation is somewhat confusing, even for those of us who have used the modules for some time. Is it possible to derive or create some clarity about what is going on here?

Might has well have a descriptive title.

Hi, Will this module be ported to D6?
