saw this: http://drupal.org/node/106192 and this http://drupal.org/node/226958 - old code snippets for node.tpl - not sure if it will work on d6, but seems like this should be part of the theme configuration settings because they are already so awesome and advanced...basic idea:
under Node Settings, where we have granular control of Author/Date, Taxonomy Terms and Links - all with options to "Use custom settings for each content type" there would be a new section for "User Pictures" with choices (simple)
- Do not display User Pictures on this content type
- Only display User Pictures on Full Nodes
- Only display User Pictures on Teasers
- Leave as is (display on Nodes and Teasers)

zilla commentedi'm not sure what you mean - i've attached a screenshot for this and you can see that display fields offers no control over user picture by content type, it's only a global option for me in theme configuration...

Anyway #1 doesnt seem to be working , User pictures (avatars) cant be disabled that way... maybe creating a template for each content type but would take long for me...
Any chances of getting this as a future feature?
