I'd like to let the node/comment creator to be able check a checkbox in the node/comment add form to "subscribe to updates" to this nodes updates.

Like you see in most forums nowadays..

Sounds like additional configuration options. Maybe #319198: Improve the subscription interface for forums would be sufficient...
