I think this should just be a patch / feature request for Apply for role.

johnhanley commentedI assume you're suggesting an approval queue.
Interesting idea, but goes beyond the module's scope. Still, I'll leave the issue open for additional discussion and consideration.

timmillwoodWhat I am trying to say is that the only difference between your module and "Apply for role" is that Apply for role must be authenticated.
So all you need on "Apply for role" module is a checkbox, "User role selections must be authenticated." then you have one module instead of two.
johnhanley commentedRight, I get it. I believe each module serves a different purpose. Apply For Roles requires role selection approval, User-Selectable Roles does not. Use the module that best suits your need.

akolahi commentedFor what it's worth, i think it would be of benefit to have one interface to be able to chose roles - some of which require approval and some of which don't.
johnhanley commentedI completely agree about the single interface. In this case it would probably be easier for the Apply For Roles maintainer to roll in the functionality of User-Selectable Roles. This seems like the simpler approach versus me trying to replicate/duplicate the work they've already done. They already have the approval queue in place and so on. I would suggest you submit a feature request to the Apply For Roles project.
akolahi commentedagreed.
Allow for the option to not need approval for certain roles, while other roles would need approval.

Soren Jones commentedI see that this was requested previously in #302874: Would like to be able to automatically approve certain role applications, so I'm marking this as a duplicate. But the thoughts here are helpful. Thank you.
