I added code to automatically enable the first-installed country--not yet tested. Still, this error will likely reappear in a different form if we don't track down why it occurred.

I've tried adding one country and it was automatically enabled. However, when I disabled it I couldn't reproduce the issue with country_code() function being undefined. Can you remember on which screens or with what settings this would happen?
