The colorpicker_example I got with the 6.x download is still the 5.x version. Maybe you know this since you're obviously working on it now.

I need to get the color code out and store it for later use, not apply it to an element that is displaying the colorpicker.

Yeah I'm sorry, the colorpicker example module is probably broken, I haven't had a chance to update any of my module recently, I've been too busy.
