If you go to this project (http://drupal.org/project/nigraphic) and view the demo you will see a list of what are essentially affiliate links in the footer. I know you can't really enforce what does and does not make it into themes, but what would be the policy regarding committing blatant advertising to the CVS?

gábor hojtsyOh, wow, that is quite bad. "Loans - Refinance - Personal Loans - Phoenix Pools" (all different links)

vm commentedI agree that this should be looked at. A credit in the footer for the theme developer is one thing but credit counseling links, debt, wills and loan add sites and the like shouldn't be part of a theme being distributed on drupal.org. If they are indeed included in the theme and not just in the demo.
I've filed an issue in that project asking for this issue to be addressed. http://drupal.org/node/324651

killes@www.drop.org commentedMy knee-jerk reaction would be to remove the project and ban the user from using cvs again.
Any reason why we shouldn't do that?
vm commentedMy only argument would be the other drupal users who may be using that theme? I don't know what the DL stats are but the issue queue seems to be active.
One could drop the maintainer off cvs, give the theme to the abandoned user (place holder), so that the theme stays for those who are using it.

gregglesI agree with VeryMisunderstood - also, step 1 should always be contacting the person whether via the issue queue or contact tab. I've done so now - let's wait a bit for response.
killes@www.drop.org commentedIt seems that these links only exist on the demo page but not in the downloadable theme. So it seems that it is a non-issue.
vm commentedIf those links aren't part of the download then yes, it's a non issue. I don't think d.o. can dictate how others use their demo sites, unless they are doing something malicious.

nimazuk commentedHello
I am the maintainer of 007-nigraphic theme http://drupal.org/project/nigraphic
Greg sent me an email and I came here and read the stuff.
Please note that the footer links are not a part of THEME and are just a general footer link on my website pages as you can see them on all other pages that use different themes. So I don't think this meets the SPAM and/or affiliate agreement things.
Also I can easily remove the footer links for theme demo page if necessary.
Please let me know how can I help.
Regards
Nima

nimazuk commentedAlso here are some sites that use this theme. you can see the original theme here in real environment
http://www-cm.math.uiuc.edu
http://filemakertalk.com
http://cvanimation.com
http://www.theaaa.org
http://davidlariphotography.com
or search for other sites
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22design+by+nigraphic%22&sourceid=navcli...
the original theme only contains a link back to my site and it is usual in themes and templates all around the world. :)
