Need easy search for PDF and DOC files attached to nodes

steve02476 - October 23, 2008 - 16:37

I'm a very new Drupal person running D5. We are uploading some PDF files and Microsoft Word .doc files as attachments to our pages, and I'd like the Search mechanism in Drupal to be able to find text in these files.

It looks to me like my main options are the Swish-E Indexer module and the Search Attachments module:

http://drupal.org/project/swish

http://drupal.org/project/search_attachments

Are there any other options available for Drupal 5.x?

It looks to me like Search Attachments might be easier to install and use - would anyone like to comment on that?

I'm nervous because the Search Attachments module to be downloaded isn't actually hosted on the drupal.org site, but instead is on the developer's own site, http://interoperating.info/mark/search_attachments Is this a problem, security-wise, or whatever?

Any advice appreciated... -Steve

I just got brave and installed search_attachments and it seems to work fine, at least for PDF files. I haven't tried configuring it for DOC files yet. Thanks.
