Trouble saving the settings for vocabularies, when they have specific characters in their names

At the theme's settings page, you are able to select which vocabularies the theme will display terms from for each node. When a vocabulary contains the dot character (.) in its name, selecting it and clicking on the Save settings button does not work. The vocabulary is never selected. If you change the name and delete the dot character, the setting for this vocabulary can be saved without any problem.
