Why would this be? doteasy.com in Vancouver.

First they tell me I have to upload Drupal 4.7, so I do this.

Now they tell me they cannot instal it and in fact no Drupal version can be uploaded to their servers. They don't know why.

Obviously one option is to move host. I can work that out myself. But has anyone any idea why they might not be able to instal Drupal 4.7? Ideas?

Thanks,

Mark G.

While Drupal has very little requirements http://drupal.org/requirements there are still numerous things a host can do wrong so that you can't use Drupal whith it. It is not possibe to say which of the requirements are not provided.

However you don't want to install Drupal 4.7 you would want to use v6 or in some cases v5.

Wasn't my idea to instal 4.7, s. That version choice was at the insistence of the webhost. I wanted to instal 6.3.

move to another host company ...it's a waste of time to due with ....

apache + php + mysql = drupal ..nothing special ...

if your host cant make it for u, ...go away ...

yeah you need to move-- even if you do manage to get drupal installed this host is going to be problematic. First, 4.7 is a mistake, second you'll probably have to worry about performance (this 'host' probably has 3 machines in sitting in a garage somewhere), and third if you ever need 'technical support' they will be incapable of providing it. There's too many dirt cheap and/or free hosts out there to put up with this nonsense.

Thanks - can you say why you think they cannot support Drupal?

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap host who can support Drupal?

For an ultra-simple graphics website, one page.

I'd get a host that is already using PHP 5 and MySQL 5. Doing so insures you will be able to move forward with new drupal releases. Check out the hosting support forum.

drupal is HUGE overkill for a 1 page site.

I know it's an overkill, World, but it's an early effort. I want to learn more about Drupal later, starting with this very simple project, but to start with I have to do this for a friend.

yeah but you're kind of stuck with this host-- you can install drupal on your local machine and learn it for free and yet still use your current host for a simple one page website. This host must be pretty lame-- as one of the other posters pointed out LAMP at a level drupal can run is a pretty basic feature set for just about any host. obviously its totally up to you, but it seems to me using drupal on this host is a loosing battle.
