Enable rich-text not working if disabled by default

I have just tried it on a fresh drupal 5.12 install with jquery_update installed. Using FF for linux 3.0.3.

I create a profile, select a few buttons, select not to be enable by default and leave the other settings on their defaults.

When a go to Create Page, for instance, and I click on enable rich-text, nothing happens except that the textarea appears to be resizable. The toggle link remains Enable rich-text. If I click again, the resize is not there any more and the toggle link changes to 'Disable rich-text'. I can click on the toggle link as many times with nothing happening except the resize textarea portion appearing and disappearing.

On the ohter hand, if tinymce is enabled by default, the toggle link works properly both enabling and disabling tinymce.
