Periodic newsletters only sent if node is resubmitted

I have created a weekly newsletter to be sent every Monday morning to subscribers, but it is not sent unless I edit the node and resubmit it. When this is done the newsletter is sent in the next cron run. Also, every time I edit the newsletter node the frequency setting is set to "Day" although I have specified "Week".

Anybody else noticed the same behaviour?
