We do have the posibility to specifiy the "Explanation or submission guidelines" (example: www.example.com/admin/settings/content-types/page)
This will be only shown on "Submit page" (see www.example.com/node/add/page)

it would be nice if we could specify the text for every content type on www.example.com/node/add individually.

example:
I could change this one
"Stories are articles in their simplest form: they have a title, a teaser[...]"
to
"Use this content type if you want to add a new product page"

this could be specified in a second text box on www.example.com/admin/settings/content-types/page or could be the same text as this "Explanation or submission guidelines"

-------

If we think this little idea a little bit further we could also allow to change the name of the content-types (just for the user)
example: not anymore "book-page" on my site it is the "user-manual-page"
And if this is not enough for you whats about this: let the user create instances of content-types.
then we dont need anymore the story module (because for me this one is the same as the page module).
the user can create a new content type which is a derivate of the page module.
Another name, another description, no upload, other taxonomies vokabularies available, forbidden to be attached to the menu, no manual excerpt, other Default options and so on...

what do you think about this

Seems like a reasonable feature to have.

It will allow for a more friendly and meaningful UI.

Now, if we can rename the content type itself as well, (e.g. "story" is not really a story)....

Oh well, I guess the upcoming "create your own node type" module would address that too.
