Hi there,
I have been thinking about this the last days, but can't quite seem to find a solution.
I have the following situation:
I need to create a page that has "main profiles" as well as "sub-profiles". Only one person (the one that takes care of the main profile) will take care of all the sub-profile. So there is a profile for the user logging in (to take an example: That would be the main profile for the "smith family", managed by Papa Smith), and have individual profile nodes (e.g. for the children of the smith family).
While this is not too difficult to do with nodeprofile etc., my problem is:
I need the full profile functionalities (messaging, friend status etc.) for the MEMBER (sub-)nodes as well.
I want Users that look at the profile page of little "Johnny Smith" to be able to send a message to "Johnny Smith", and NOT to "Smith family" (even though only "Papa Smith" would receive the message that "Johnny Smith" was sent a message to).
Also, if for example "Papa Denver" created a profile for the Denver family, and has a subprofile for his daughter "Mia Denver", I want him to be able to make Mia and Johnny friends.
Please note - all the subprofiles would be managed by only one person, the one that created the family account, so only "papa smith" will log in and will create relationships between johnny smith and Mia Denver, for example.
I know it might seem strange to have this kind of relationships between nodes, however I only used family as examples to simplify. The messaging/buddy scenario makes more sense in the real-world drupal installation, however this itself would be even more complicated to explain ;-)))
Thanks for ANY ideas!
Best regards,
Robert

This is exactly what I need
This is exactly what I need also. Currently on my sites "Papa" just creates logins for each of his family members which can be a minor nuisance for large families.
