Could it be possible to make translation overview work with terms, the best would be to have an interface like the main overview window, but for each language have a textfield for each term, so that the translator can just write into those field manually. Ajax reordering of columns would be needed so that the translator can but original language beside the language being translated into.

it's kind of outside of the scope of this module... it starts to get into the i18n.module's territory and i'd like to avoid that level of complexity. so i'll mark this as won't fix though it would be nice.

There is a new module http://drupal.org/project/translation_table which seems to do exactly what I asked for.
