Guys, great module!

But

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, ...

Can we have emial alerts for new messages back into the module - preferably with the option to set a site wide default option (to say send an email alert per private message)

This module is core to my site as communication accross a REAL commuity of people who know each other off line is at the heart of http://afterthemouse.com and a member getting a mail is a great draw to the site making it sticky!

Many thanks
Tim

Follow these instructions and let me know if it works: http://drupal.org/node/236667

I will include the patch into the main module if enough people say it works.

NEVERMIND ... I found the file-Download in the other diskussion threat:

http://drupal.org/files/issues/privatemsg_1.zip

I have the same problem.

I can not apply the patch myself. Is there anyone who can supply a patches version of Privatemsg 5.x-3.0?

The E-Mail notification is by far one of the most important features if you want people to come back to your site.

Regards, Paul

I know this is something none will like to hear, but as a site owner and privatemessage maintainer i urge you to give a thorough consideration to start drafting plans on how and when you will make upgrade to drupal 6.

Fact of this project is that privatemsg 5.x is legacy code that may work for some, may not work for others. But at the end of the day that code base is _not maintained_. If you ignore the calling for upgrade you run the risk of hurting your upgrade path in not such a long term and virtually cutting away all chances for easier upgrade and will end up paying much more for redevelopment of your site to move over to a more maintained versions of each project.

We try very hard to keep standards of this module as high as we are able to therefore we provide an easy upgrade path from privatemsg 5.x to 6.x and up so now is the time to start planning your upgrade. Very soon (months) support for privatemsg 5.x will cease and the module will be removed from the project page. Only versions 6.x and up will be maintained.

Email notification have been provided in 6.x AS WELL AS upgrade path from 5.x, we've made your life easier in that regard.

Marking this issue as Won't fix becaue it really is a won't fix. No features code is getting committed to 5.x branch unless its a security fix which i obligate myself to resolve.
