hi guys
you might have seen this sort of thread before, but my situation might be different.
I am a graphic designer, i have done static websites before, but now a client wants me to create a website for them where they can sell stuff over the internet.
i thought i can do that with my normal shared hositng, with drupal or joomla.
but then i am adviced that i should have ecommerce hosting for this client.
i have quoted this client already and taken money from them as deposit, 50%.
this http://afghans.com.au/bb_to_sameh1_sml.jpg is the design that i have given them in photoshop only an image, not as coded, or anything like that.
so i am here to get advice from you guys as what do i need to do? and how can i solve this problem.
is drupal capable of doing this ecommerce work?
do i need to get ecommerce hosting?
thank you so much for your help guys.
please give me as much details as possible if you have any ideas.
thanks

Yes Drupal can do e-commerce
Yes Drupal can do e-commerce using either the Ubercart ir e-commerce modules. So the whole site would be on one server. Depending on the site traffic a shared hosting plan may work. Not sure what you mean by "ecommerce hosting" but it sounds like dedicated hosting using an e-commerce solution other than Drupal and if this is the case and you are going to use Drupal it is unneeded.
security
Drupal can do it but if you have only experience with static sites be prepared for a ride. This is really a different cookie.
One thing to consider is that drupal will be either completely over the ssl or not. Since you want it secure because its a shop, its completely over ssl. This is a bit more of a strain on the server then only serving the pages that are really needed over ssl. When expecting a lot of trafic this might be an concern.
Anybody? correct me if I'm wrong, cause it's an issue for me too.
Actually you run only part
Actually you run only part of the site over ssl. The Secure Pages module should help with that.
ah thanx for that module
I was ill informed then. Looks really good.
