Markers not associated with locations - why there in UI?

Hi -

The only reason I'm using Gmap & Location on my site is to have one map: a single view of one type of content. To that end, I enabled Location, Gmap, Location Views, and Gmap Views Integration. I was able to set up my view perfectly using these 4 modules.

So, where's the problem? Well, I also needed to change map marker. Apparently that can't be done in the four modules I'd enabled to complete my task - the markers are set in the Gmap Location module. By reading it's description, this module sounds like something that would put a map on each node that contains Locative information. It sounds like a lot of overhead, is that really necessary just to change a makrer?

If I'm reading things wrong, forgive me. Maybe this module is necessary to my set up for other reasons I don't yet understand. But if I'm right, maybe Marker control should have it's own checkbox on admin/build/modules.
