Although it seems to be necessary to have an extra page link to each expanding menu item, in someway it looks weird to have two items with the same name doing something different.
What really could be cool is to use the list-item-picture as link to realize this effect.
With the Garland theme, for example this would mean, that the menu expands if you click on the small triangle and the triangle changes the appearance depending on whether the sub-menu is expanded or not. I assume then the list-item-picture would have been realized as a picture with a link and not only as list-item-background-picture as it is normally done with css.

cburschkaThis feature has been implemented in the 7.x branch, but I likely won't be carrying it back to the 6.x branch. It is a rather big change in the way the user interface works.
