Now days I get about 67 Email notifications with title "New release(s) available for ..." . I am not sure where in the setting things has gone wrong but it is annoying. Do you have any idea how I can fix this please?

disable update status module
or

change the settings at below path

http://yoursite.com/admin/reports/updates/settings

remove email addresses from
"E-mail addresses to notify when updates are available: " textbox

Is this going to disable the service? I want to receive the notification but not 67 time for each note.

I have my settings on Check for Updates set to "Weekly", but I still get an e-mail every time the Cron job runs (about every 1/2 hour). This issue started with one of the recent updates.

Me too. Except that it started out from nowhere just couple of days ago. And I have two sites running cron every 10 minutes -> quite many messages in one day.. 8)
