Site is www.RetireUSA.net

Problem 1 is that after I "upgraded" to Drupal 6.4 via Godaddy I've lost most site functionality. Asking them to revert to older version. How important is the newer version - ie since we need to build up new themes anyway should we start with newer version?

Problem 2 is themeing - we wanted a custom theme looking something like this and working with links throughout the several thousand pages of the site - is that unrealistic for budget under $1000?

It's not important to be on v6.x yet, especially since you'll lose a lot of functionality because all the modules are not supported on 6 yet. We were developing entirely on 5.x until just recently when the views and cck modules were released for 6.

If all the functionality is already there you shouldn't have to much trouble finding someone to design and implement that theme for around $1000.

As CommonDavid pointed out, it may not be a good idea to go to Drupal 6 -- if you need modules that are not available for D6.

What site functionality did you lose? From looking at your site, it looks like you may have a conflict between different parts of the drupal code.

Overall, I'd suggest reviewing the list of modules you need and making an informed decision based on that. There are significant advantages to the upgrade, so you might find it feasible if D6 versions of all your modules are available.

Thanks for the advice here and offers of paid help via email. Our budget tightened and I'm now trying to fix this myself.
