Note: This issue is raised as a duplicate of #308186: cURL 7.18.2 and SimpleTest module bitterly despise one another (which has been applied to D7), in order to get the patch applied to SimpleTest for D6. It seemed poor form to reopen that issue, and change the project/version/component to non-core SimpleTest.

The patch in comment http://drupal.org/node/308186#comment-1010137 still applies to SimpleTest 6.x-2.5 (with "patch -p2" and some fuzz), but attached is a reroll to remove the fuzz.

Oh, incase it wasn't clear - this patch fixes the issue for me :)

Applying this patch fixed the problem. Problem was that simpletest couldnt submit POST forms.

Note that i only tested it on MAMP PRO Leopard.
