Drupal for Intranet?

I created an intranet with Drupal, it works fine. As far as I'm concerned, an intranet is just another website, the only difference being that it's not accessible from outside the organization. There are many ways to restrict access to your intranet, so outsiders can't get in. IMHO, if Drupal is suitable for your needs depends on the functionality you're looking for, not on the fact that it's an intranet.

While I have not built an intranet yet (in the strict sense of the word), several of my sites have extranet features.
So I have to give you a big yes here.

I set-up an Intranet at work to encourage the team I'm a member of to create & share documentation. Because its internal there's a lot less hassle about security.

In its default skin (/theme) it flies even on an old unwanted windows xp box with 256mb of ram.

Technically, we've a multi-user blog-site with forum.

I agree with the above authors. I developed (or rather configured, since I used only existing modules) an extranet with quite some intranet functionality for a customer. I even developed a Sharepoint look-alike theme so that the people (mostly employees at a company using Microsoft products) would feel comfortable with the Microsoft look-and-feel.
