dalek sec - November 16, 2008 - 20:24

Ok i tried doing what i was told on here and replaced the images with the ones i wanted however it does not work for some reason...i just replaced the old theme images with the images i wanted to take their place and i thought through css etc...it would redfine them automatically however it does not work.
What i am trying to do is set a background of my choosing as well as a header of my choosing with a small logo in the upper left hand corner of the header....however i cannot seem to get it to work...i go through the theme css files and basically every file in the theme folder and alter everything to what i want it to be and it does not change anything....so what am i doing wrong and how might i fix this issue?

no one answers these forums either...lol

dalek sec - November 16, 2008 - 22:24

i go through these forums and only about 40 percent of them are answered....i posted this thing hours ago and one last night and still no response...i mean this place is about as useful as a cat flap in an elephant house...lol
i mean come on give me some support here people....

after making the changes did you refresh your browser cache ? and DB cache in administer -> performance ?

you speak of "images" as if we can see them or know what theme is in use, but : ) we can't. The best way to get support is to be as detailed as possible and mention what is in use. In this case what theme ?

how are you changing the logo? using the admin UI? hardcoding it in the css file?

I suggest using the firefox browser with the firebug addon to inspect the elements and insure they are being changed. Ultimatley if you are using the color picker to change colors, then you very well may be editing the wrong css file. as changing colors forces drupal to store a new css file in the files folder.

I don't know how you get your math but there is far more than 40% of forum threads answered. All of your threads now have at least one response according to your tracker.

i figured that would get a response....

dalek sec - November 16, 2008 - 23:08

i figured the cat flap thing would get some witty response from some really witty and very intelligent goober...lol
you fell into my trap...and merely answering my post just so i would have a response....only proved my point...lol
i was testing you to see what the hell the deal is...i am new i need help...lol
i posted the link to the images before...here it is again

http://affiliate.kickapps.com/kickapps/service/displayHomePageExperience.kickAction?page=Homepage&as=68501'

basically i dont like the design..and i just threw that up there to sort of act as a guide....what i ultimately want...
i found that 007 mi graphics theme here on drupal....well i like that theme...
what i would like to do is implement that theme for my site...and i would like to put the gargoyle on the header of the page i gave you in that header area on the 007....i would like to put the stone wall background i made as the background for the site and up at the top where the nigraphics logo is i want to put my own logo...

that and modify a few colors on the thing and that all i want...lol

so can ya please help me out...

Careful you don't hurt your elbow trying to pat yourself on the back ; )
Your choice of words had nothing to do with why I chose to answer your question. I simply visited the recent posts list and began working my way down the list. Your thread happened to be one of those.

if you aren't going to take the time to answer the questions already posed to you, it is difficult to help.
please reread my comment and take the time to help those who are williing to provide support help you.

Again, using the firefox browser with the firebug addon helps a great deal with altering css.

Ensure you clear your cache tables and that css aggregation is disabled in administer -> performance. If you are making changes to css and the changes aren't showing, this would point o something being stuck in cache somewhere be it your browser or your database.

Lastly, read http://drupal.org/forum-posting
You would be far better off following the practical advice in that linked thread rather than using the methods you are now employing.

ok i did all that

dalek sec - November 17, 2008 - 00:03

i do use firefox and i do use firebug...i can do just about everthing except make it look the way i want it to look...lol modules and all that are no prob it is just appearance i cant seem to get that down...so thank you for the help
as for the cache tables they are cleared...i just disabled the css aggregation...so let me try that again...
nope it made no difference....here is what i have instead www.griffinfilm.com
even though i have changed the images and everything..what should i do now?
Do i need to download the theme i want to use and then change it after i extract the files on my computer and then upload them through ftp to my site into the themes folder? would that solve the dilimma?

hello

dalek sec - November 17, 2008 - 06:18

well? how do i do this...lol

=-=

VM - November 17, 2008 - 13:35

how are you editing the css files now?

I edit a css file of my theme on my localmachine
I upload the css file to my drupal install
I refresh my browser cache
I refresh cache in administer -> performance

and my changes show perfecftly well.

Please explain the workflow you are using, without the color commentary. Just the play by play.

ok

dalek sec - November 18, 2008 - 00:01

i initially only changed one theme....i got the dark green theme off of the drupal site...then i downloaded it...i unzipped the file....and then i turned around and uploaded it into the themes folder....then i tried to change the files on my cpanel legacy file folder....i have an editor in there...so i tried to modify the file there...and i tried to replace the images with the images that were in there...so that might be the problem...let me try to download one unzip it...make the modifications and then upload using ftp and see if that works...

lets say though i want to take the 007 theme....the one at the top of the themes list on drupal...ok
i want to take that theme....and i want to basically alter it a bit to line up with this....and i dont have it on privte now so you can see it...lol sorry about that..
http://affiliate.kickapps.com/kickapps/service/displayHomePageExperience...
i want that gargoyle pic in the header of course and the back ground i definately want on as it took me awhiile to create those...lol

up in the top where the drupal logo is on the 007 theme i want my own logo of course...
so basically what do you suggest and which css file is it i need to change...is it a standard one or something? what should i look out for?
on a final and unrelated note....what is this error message i have on my site and how do i remove it?
http://www.griffinfilm.com/

thanks for the help it is appreciated..

ok check this out genesis dark matter

dalek sec - November 18, 2008 - 02:41

i chose the genesis dark theme theme....so i have downloaded the genesis framework and the genesis dark matter theme...so i unzipped them both and i have replaced the logo image in the dark matter theme to my own...and i replaced the lightening bolt with my own...ok....so this should theoretically work...now where would i go on this theme to place the background image to be that of the wall i want?
would it be on the framework or in the sub theme which is the dark matter?
now if i go ahead and do all this and then upload it...it should theoretically work...can i change the text colors and fonts and manipulate colors a bit after it is uploaded ? how does one do that? am i on the right track?

=-=

VM - November 18, 2008 - 02:49

background images, text colors, and manipulating other colors all done in the style.css file of the theme.

there isnt a style css

dalek sec - November 18, 2008 - 08:20

on this particular theme there is an ie css file and a layout css file in the genesis frame folder and there is an ie css file in the dark matter sub theme folder...so i take it that i need to modify from the sub theme or the dark matter folder and not in the gensis frame folder right? or am i wrong?
actually on further review there is a lot of css files in the frame folder....

confused

...

Jeff Burnz - November 18, 2008 - 09:59

Edit the subthemes CSS, never touch the main Genesis Framework CSS.

Use Firebug, it tells you exactly what files and selectors you need to edit.

You're confused because you are not taking advantage of all the resources available to you - such as Firebug, or all the documentation. You say you use Firebug - well this would tell you exactly what selectors and what files you need to edit. There are very good docs on subthemeing and Genesis has docs about subthemes also.

ok thx...

dalek sec - November 18, 2008 - 18:43

being new to firebug...entirely new i may be a bit confused as to all the features...i have only just installed it and am not awar of all it has to offer...so this must be a part of the problem..
i am a newbie after all.....lol
any other pointers? can i edit the thing in firebug for example?
that is to say that when a color or something is changed does it automatically take precedence?

=-=

VM - November 18, 2008 - 18:44

you can edit in firebug to take a look at what you are changing and how those changes affect the site. However you will still need to make the changes in your physical .css file.

Mate, start reading and

Jeff Burnz - November 18, 2008 - 19:39

Mate, start reading and viewing the tutorials, Genesis even has a video tutorial on how to use Firebug to prototype styles.

thank you guys

dalek sec - November 19, 2008 - 14:28

worked like a charm...thank you guys so much i couldnt have done it without you....stop by and join if you want....www.griffinfilm.com i am still going to tweak things like the text etc, but it looks great.
one last question....i want to put an image in the top right corner....how do i put one in there?
i used one, but on the default drak matter theme it showed up with only half the picture...probably because it was different dimensions and when i tried to adjust it i was unable too...
any suggestions on how to do this?
