Since I need different fields, according to the Event activity type, I created custom content_type nodes for the events.

Will a CCK node with Sign Up enabled send the reminder email; or, is it only activated when you use an Event node?

Found my answer after downloading the upgraded 5.x-2.6 version. It was in the INSTALL.txt.

You can use Events. module -or- CCK.module + Date.module.
