Am I right in thinking that Google Maps Tools could be a viable alternative to the usual recipe of Gmap + Location?
If so, would it be straightforward to migrate node co-ordinates from Location to Google Maps Tools?
This module shows a lot of promise :-)

cronix commentedI am having the same question. GMAP and location are the core of my site. How much work is it to migrate to gmaps? Can the nodes be migrated automatically? It would be a lot of work if I have to migrate all my coordinates manually.

Breakerandi commentedDito.. For me its important that i can realize ONE Map with user locations and node locations. With gmap and location it is possible, but not nice.. what about gmaps?

jayburgh commentedAnother ditto here. I have an immediate requirement to implement node and user location mapping functionality requiring a good part of the feature set advertised by Location/GMap. I'm not opposed to using less than mature s/w, especially if it offers better performance and will grow. But, given that there doesn't seem to be any docs for the module and that the author hasn't addressed this obviously critical query, I don't think I have much choice but to use Location/GMap and check back here at a later date.

xmarket commentedMigration: I heve no time to work on both improvements and migration tools, so I prefer improvements.
User maps: One of the key improvements of the 7.x-2.x branch.
Location maps (location module like views integration): 7.x-3.x branch.
