Any plans for Drupal 6?

Not in the short term. Doesn't seem like there's much demand for it. A patch would be welcomed.

Are people who are asking for the D6 version currently using the D5 version, or just looking for something new for a D6 site? If the latter, what other D6 solutions have you tried, and how are they lacking?
The usage statistics are pretty dismal, so I've been assuming people had found better choices for this kind of need.
I'm open to adding a co-maintainer, if there's a coder out there who is passionate about this.

I have found no solution for sending individualized emails to users on drupal. The solution that I have in mind would have to be scalable and allow each user to receive a weekly email based on a view... that filters by a few user preferences I have setup. While I understand that the best long term solution for me is a custom module, this module would allow for a proof of concept.
I think that this would be a needed addition and could do very well. If you build it... they will come. I'd assist you with putting together a couple of screen casts that show it off with different case uses. This feature combined with a profile node, can open the world up for any site that need to interact with users. I just don't think that people see the power in it.

Also, I'm very concerned about the scalability of notify_by_views. That would need some careful testing.

Unless I missed something with one of these 2 modules, there is currently not a way to base the content that is emailed on a view. Assuming that I later had a module developed, I do see it being based on notifications because the api allow access to more than just email.
FOr the time being however, this module would do great and I for many smaller sites it could be a useful tool. Might I suggest that you look at working with one of those 2 frameworks? Individualized emails is not something Drupal does well. I'd like to encourage you to proceed with the module.
