As suggested - a feature request for a UI to reference existing files uploaded from a filefield on another node.

Perhaps the UI would use an ajaxy checkbox or link to switch between upload & reference mode. Then a node title lookup field, once entered would display a dropdown list of filefield files of which you can select.

Probably a better UI idea's out there but here's something.

Your request is duly noted.... You're welcome to improvise... I don't see myself being able to work on it for a while.. UI mockups woudl be great.

I am developing an Ubercart site and they use this field type for product images. Each song file on an album has the same image so my files folder is filling up with duplicates..
