Autosave module provides a really useful feature that is becoming more important for Drupal and many users now expect Drupal to d this out of the box as other software does. It would be great to have this feature in Drupal core. See also #340025: Form input text lost.

Not sure there is much point in posting this to Autosave as we would have little say in adding this to core. And since you have duplicated in with Drupal project issue i'll mark as duplicate.
