Spanish Translation - incorrect translation of "Node: Sticky" key

Anyone with CVS access can commit to translations at any time. There isn't currently a single person who coordinates translations for Views, so in general I let people who want to work on translations do so.

The problem with attaching a .po file is that if someone else has updated the .po file since this was created, I could inadvertantly undo their changes. Unfortunately, translators are often not particularly knowledgeable about using diff and providing patches. I'm not quite sure what to do about this.

I don't personally know the translation system well enough to tell you how to deal with problems; that's a Drupal thing and I try to support it as much as possible, but in my own use I am 100% English.

1. You can join the spanish translation team. I'm sure they are happy to get more hands... see http://l10n.drupal.org.es/ (currently broken) and http://drupal.org/project/es.

2. You can use http://drupal.org/project/l10n_client that have an re-import packages feature that can also cleanup you database.

Closed while closing all Views support requests with no activity for 6 months. If you still need help, you may re-open this issue at any time.

LArjona, we must not aim to get literal translations but the most adequate ones considering the use of Spanish. Your proposal for sticky as "pegajoso" is basically correct but makes no sense in Spanish.
"Promocionado", in the other hand, seems more correct for the matter.

Let's analize the meaning of sticky in this context, thinking outside the box of our simple dictionaries:

• Sticky is a term used in the social sciences and particularly economics to describe a situation in which a variable is resistant to change. Eg: sticky prices.
• Sticky, in Drupal, means the property of a node/article to stay where is placed (on top of lists), therefore it sticks there. With the translation "pegajoso" you say that the node/article has the property of being sticky, as if you touch it your finger will stick to it. Like jam. So we need a different property to be represented here, the capacity of the article/node to not be affected by the rules that arrange the rest of nodes/articles.Eg: sticky note (nota adhesiva); it stays where your hand won't stick to it.
• From the Chambers dictionary: sticky adj (stickier, stickiest)
  1. covered with something that is tacky or gluey. => This would be the maning of your translation: pegajoso.
  2. able or likely to stick to other surfaces. => But we rather look for this meaning.
  3. said of the weather: warm and humid; muggy.
  4. colloq said of a situation, etc: difficult; awkward; unpleasant.
• So, thinkinf of the quality to stay "where it wants" another possible translation to Spanish could be "tenaz".
• I would even consider to adopt sticky as an anglicism into the Spanish version. We have done that with many English words when there wasn't an acceptable equivalent word in Spanish.

Therefore I would suggest to translate sticky as:

• Promocionado, being it different from promoted to front page (promocionado a la página de inicio o portada), as the node is promoted to stay on top of the node lists.
• Fijo, as it denotes the property of the note to stay fixed on top of other nodes.
• De/en cabecera, describing where will the node be placed.
• Importante, as the nodes is more important that others and needs to be shown from a privileged location.
• Destacado (notable, outstanding, distinguished, prominent), being this one my prefered option.

So, please, please, please, let's think a bit before submitting inadequate translations.

Final note: I am Spanish from Spain, to clarify my use and understanding of language.

(And btw, I think the right translation for 'sticky' in this context would be 'permanente', but anyway I'll leave this up to the translation reviewers on the l10n Spanish site....)

Permanente is a good choice as well... anything but pegajoso!
