This site sorts all of it content/data pretty well http://www.mdparty.com/
I know the site above looks very outdated but is very effective in the way it handles all the events and relates them to each other. I was wondering how hard it would to setup a site something like this with drupal. I am new to drupal and have only gone for a couple of test spins. Hence a few questions???
1) I would like to ask what modules you might use to achieve this kind of a site.
2) How would you as a drupal user go about building/setting up this kind of site with those kind of functions/modules?
3) How easy would it be to maintain a site something like this?
Tia for your time!

Bill

1) cck, views, core
1) cck, views, core taxonomy, faceted_search, & cck_facets to start. There's a number of modules for images/video but at minimum look at image, imagefield, imagecache, swftools, flashnode, video, flashvideo, and embedded media field.
2) First thing I would do is install drupal and start learning about it. Go through the getting started documentation, watch as many videos as you can (there's many very good ones). Perhaps get one of the drupal books. Go through the case studies-- there's tons of valuable design and build info there.
3) I'm not really sure since I don't know much about the site you link. As for the drupal aspect of maintainence, it's pretty low key. As with any other sw there are the occasional minor dot release security updates. Major release upgrades (ie d5 to d6) are much more involved, but also not as frequent-- conceivably you could wait 2-3 years between major updates. The key, as with any sw effort, is to have good regular backups.

Relating / Sorting content with every single post on my site.
So I can build a event style site with drupal. I just need to figure out how to relate everything. You mention videos where might i find the best ones?
Thank you for your valuable time!

Edit: I found a lot of interesting videos after hitting the search button. Man thanks for that post!

They're scattered throughout
They're scattered throughout the repository (http://drupal.org/handbook/customization/videocasts). Just about all the vids at drupaldojo.com are amazing, however they tend to be a little on the advanced side. I was able to digest them by watching them more than once. Also good are the lullabot.com ones-- and they tend to be about more basic stuff.
Browse through them all though-- i don't believe there's a 'bad' one in the bunch.
