if i log in the emails get sent out, and the from field is filled in, but the from field shows two angle brackets if contact form viewed by anonymous user, and the emails go nowhere.

actually not nowhere but the message that goes to the user's email address it states "(http://example.com/user/0) has sent you a message via ..."

i guess i am just wondering if this form could behave more like the sitewide form once we are here? the user being messaged is anonymous but the anonymity of the sender should be optional, especially since the checkbox is there that says "send self copy" but there is nowhere to include your email.
