After running update.php, a warning message is displayed: 

 warning: Missing argument 1 for pathauto_menu() ... pathauto.module on line 55.

$may_cache was deprecated from hook_menu in Drupal 6. See: http://drupal.org/node/114774

This warning message was probably due to a corrupted file in my installation. I downloaded a fresh copy of the module and re-installed same. The warning message is no longer occurring. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Documenting to possibly assist others who may experience a similar error in the future.
