How do I get a list of upcoming events in the sidebar of the 'bluemarine' theme?

danielmclean1 - October 15, 2005 - 13:39

Is it critical that the flexinode module be installed and configured before the event module--so that a listing of upcoming events will appear? What is iCal? Is it some sort of hook-up with Apple software? I just want my event listings, not a calendar ... Thanks for any help you can provide.

Yes, I would like to know as well

Onthisdate Module

jclaussen - October 15, 2005 - 17:36

What about modifying the onthisdate.module that is in the module developers guide? http://drupal.org/node/22792

one theme, all themes...

You don't need flexinode to list next events. Just check the module event, give proper permissions and add the "next listing event" bloc.

I don't know ether about iCal, but why don't you ask your best friends? www.google.com or www.yahoo.com , I am sure those will help you a little bit.

Also if I may, I would suggest you to try all possible clic and what is that link on your new drupal website. That will show you way more possibilities and you will learn a lot.

What's the "next listing event" block?

danielmclean1 - October 18, 2005 - 11:14

This whole event and flexinode module configuration has been frustrating. All I want is a block on the side to say upcoming events and list the dates (or days until event) below each entry. Is there a simple, simple way to do this?

I've tried installing flexinode.module before event.module
Even though I have the "calendar to list upcoming events" block checked, it doesn't appear in the side column even though I've entered an upcoming event.
Is flexinode necessary?--some say it is.

(Also, do I need to upload the update.mysql in the flexinode.module to my database to make flexinode work?)

event module only needed

Hi Daniel,

If what you want is only to put a "next event" bloc that will list the ... well next events, you do not need the flexiblock.

Flexiblock will add complexity to your installation of drupal. So if you want to keep it simple, don't add flexiblock. When you will be more comfortable with drupal and need more power of the blocks, read the flexiblock project page and all doc. on it.

Moving along...

When you install the event module and activate it (admin-modules) you will have two more blocks available to you. Note that these blocks by default are *not activated*.

1- Calendar of events. This will show a small, pink by default I think, calendar with the current month and different colors when there is an event.

2- Next events (or "future events", or "soon", or "upcoming events" or something else, you'll have to look at it, I don't remember the correct name). This will list all next events if you have some. If you don't, this block will not show.

Remember that you shoud read and execute line by line the installation document when installing the event module. If I remember correctly there was a nail in the end. If there is a line that you don't execute or does not understand, post it here.

If you don't find the next event block, just add a new event (you should have the possibility to have a begin and end date in that node) in the future (lets say one month from today) and activate all the deactivated blocks to the left side. You'll eventually get it.

If you don't see it after those actions, there is something wrong with what you have done.
Good luck.

oh and...

(Also, do I need to upload the update.mysql in the flexinode.module to my database to make flexinode work?)

No. Update.php is to update just like the README or INSTALL file says. Did you used a older version of flexinode before? No. Then no update is needed.

Missing 'Upcoming Events' Block - my Experience

iDonny - March 7, 2006 - 22:06

In Drupal 4.65, the 'upcoming Events' content block misteriously disappered from one installation while it was available (in the blocks' settings) and visible in another. I was able to solve this problem on the installation running on a Windows server by simply deleting the event module files and the database table, and re-installing the module afresh after making sure that the server did not have any residual files from the old installation.

This is the short account of the occurance and you can read the whole story at: http://www.cmsproducer.com/node/34
