Beautiful site. Good navigation system, less clicks to get to where I want.

Some of your URLs are not hackable though. No backward navigation.

Are you using the Location module?

All the content was/is posted manually. The old site had no CMS at all (i died a little that day) and about 1800 articles, restaurant, retailer and venue reviews. We started the project in September and it launched on Oct 30.

We are using the typical drupal modules for a magazine website, with most of the custom work going to the ajax search and the popup slideshow viewer.

I'll work on getting a case study together this week.

I too am going to be re-invigorating some magazine websites to include the Drupal frame work along with social interactivity (not necessarily networking, but that too). I would be more than abliged to hear how you implemented your design/functionality.

I am particularly interested in how you accomplished the dual column sub-menus... that was a nifty little magic trick :)

I'm in two minds about the multi-column navigation, but used like this to just focus a few key sections seems to be working.

That calendar however really kicks ass functionally! It does what it's supposed to :-B
Less than two months sounds like a pretty short timeframe to have rolled the whole thing together - including content & image import from the old unstructured site?

When we were doing our research on competing sites, most don't have any hierarchy to articles at all, everything is categorized or tagged in some way but wouldn't sit in a traditional menu system the way pages on a normal website would. The primary navigation and drop down lists really just serve to present different views of the content, certain articles would appear in multiple locations rather than a traditional drupal menu system.

To spoil the suprise, the whole primary nav isn't part of the drupal menu system, the top level is hardcoded into the template and the content of the drop downs are blocks using html and the l() function.

Thanks for the props about the calendar, a large percentage of the theme overrides we did were to rework the calendar, that's why it launched with only the week view :)

We went with drupal 5 because we had some experience with the location and gmaps modules on d5 sites and the development on the d5 versions of those modules was a few weeks ahead of the d6 port. It was a hard decision since there are so many views and using views 2 would have been great.
