After filling out the Mass Contact form and sending an email to about 30 users, my browser window went blank. When I refreshed the page I get the message "Site off-line. The site is currently not available due to technical problems. Please try again later. Thank you for your understanding." I followed the instructions in the documentation at http://drupal.org/node/56995 to get the site back online, but to no avail.

Following a suggestion at http://drupal.org/node/295561, I gave my database a new user with full priviledges and changed settings.php appropriately. Strangely, some pages of the website were fixed but some still showed "Site off-line". After a few hours the website worked normally. Was this delay due to some sort of caching?
