It would be useful if the Asset Module had a similar extent of support for video sharing websites as the embedded media field module. Specifically support for google video and blip.tv at a minimum would be helpful

The former version 2.x of asset (now discontinued) was using the embedded media field module to managed 2rd party video provider.

There is a plan to evolve asset in such direction : asset will be only a UI that will use other modules (such as embedded media field module) to managed the asset. But is will take time.
