I know there's a little checkbox that gives the OPTION to contact the members, but the documentation and the Email Message tab suggest that something will be emailed either way.

This is just a test import to see how the CSV file translates into actual accounts.

If you set the option 'Send Email' then a welcome message will be sent to new users, the 'Email Message' section allows you to customise that message otherwise the site's standard welcome message will be used.

If the option 'Send Email' is not set then nothing will be sent.
