Distributed Authentication

Can someone explain how this function works. I'm working on a school project and I need to use this feature but I'm stuck. We're using dokeos and we want the users of dokeos be able to login in our site using this feature. The sites are both hosted on the same system. The urls are site/dokeos and site/drupal.
