Hello I am using CCK and see there is an "Allowed value" list. I am not sure how exactly that works, but it looks like you have to give it each value.

Anyway, I am looking to restrict the field of using periods .

So all alphanumeric characters are allowed. Does that mean I have to list all alphabet and numbers in the allowed values list?

The "allowed list" is for typing fixed values. It isn't practial in your case.

Type "cck validation" into the "Search downloads" box on this page, you'll find at least one suitable module.
