Currently using Profile Plus to gather information on the registration form. I have a required select list (a selection of states) but the first value is 'Alabama'. Is there another module that I can use to validate a select list and force a user to choose a value?

I have tried adding a "|" to the top of the selection options, but still does not create a blank line. Any other ideas?
