Ubercart 2.0 Beta 1 Released for Drupal 6
The Ubercart e-commerce module package has just made it into beta territory on Drupal 6. We were holding off making an official release until after modules that we integrated with for out of the box image support achieved some level of stability. With both CCK and Views now trucking along on Drupal 6, it's past time for Ubercart to make the switch. We've also been holding up to get some comprehensive testing, but looking at the usage statistics, there are about 1,000 people more "testing" Ubercart in development and production sites than we imagined.
So, stores have been popping up on dev releases for the last couple of months, but as of today there is an official beta release available for use. There are a few known issues detailed in the release notes, and at this point we aren't encouraging users to performs updates on live sites from Drupal 5. However, we'd love for more people to be building Ubercart sites on Drupal 6 and doing test updates in development environments so we can work out any existing kinks in the update functions.
Ubercart still provides out of the box product image and catalog support, and it has dropped down to a single module dependency (the ubiquitous Token module). The feature set is roughly the same, with some improvements in the notifications system and a core solution to replace Workflow-ng for the time being. There is still more to accomplish, but a solid beta release like Lyle put together this morning for us will go a long way toward a stable 2.0 release. The sooner the better, so get to testing and ... feedbacking?
Feel free to ask for more information on particular issues related to the beta release. Support requests should be posted through the community support forums on Ubercart.org while bug reports and patches should be posted through the issue tracker here on d.o. Many thanks, and good night from snowy New Orleans where I'm thoroughly enjoying Do It With Drupal. : )
(Speaking of which... slides and resources presented at DIWD related to Ubercart can be grabbed from my Ubercart session page, including a quick guide to installing Ubercart on Drupal 6.)

good news. will there be a
good news.
will there be a smooth upgrade path to the stable release version?
Definitely. As far as I
Definitely. As far as I know, simple site upgrades should work fine, but we just haven't done wide testing on that yet. For example... there were some changes to the file module, so we haven't done a whole lot of testing moving sites selling digital downloads from 5 to 6. Also, there may be some parts of the Workflow-ng -> Conditional Actions update process that aren't complete.

Ubercart Beta Sponsors
I realized after posting that I'd be remiss if I failed to mention the fact that we're very thankful to the Ubercart community and our Drupal 6 migration sponsors who freed up our development time to focus on specific migration issues. So, a big thanks to the people who have been active in our support forums and development issue tracker, and a big thanks for the encouragement and funding from our sponsors.
