Filtered Words cause improper url

When creating content using certain words, the pathauto url returns incorrect.
Examples:
Term Off Topic the url returns -topic node/-topic
Term The Lounge the url returns -lounge node/-lounge
Term Off Topic The Lounge returns node/topic-lounge

Not sure what the problem is when using the words Off or The.
Is there a reason for filtered words?
