links rerouting incorrectly with cck taxonomy tags & archive

Strange issue - I have installed a cck taxonomy field with multi select, and free tagging options to allow users to input tags on their advanced profile page. The tags are displayed in a panels block. When clicking on one of the tags, the link initially is listed correctly, for example to: /profile-tags/term ---> and should lead to a taxonomy page that lists all nodes tagged with that term. Instead, the link reroutes to the profile page itself.

Related to this, using the archive module, when clicking on one of the links to the monthly archive, the links also reroute to a profile page.

Using tagadelic - other taxonomy tag terms in the site link correctly to the tag term page, and they also work when listed on a node.

I have tried different configurations with pathauto, and also using views tagadelic on the profile, but the behavior is the same.
