This module has been noted as a priority for updating to 4.7. Here is a new version of the module with Form API in, and some minor tidying up. I've just done a direct searcg/replace, so the functionality has not been changed. However, I think the settings page needs a bit of work form-wise and the settings variable names could be thought out a bit better.

Apologies for the complete file: I am having problems creating a patch with UNIX/DOS line breaks... will upload patch if I can get that sorted.

There we go. It wasn't newline characters - my editor is set to remove trailing whitespace from lines. So, this patch incorporates those changes. Sorry if it makes the patch a little harder to read, but losing that whitespace isn't a problem is it?

Patch attached, briefly tested on latest HEAD. Needs further testing and review.

Sorry..I only spotted this now. I changed my email address recently and Drupal.org doesn't pick up on it for contributers.

An updated and tested version of the front_page.module is available in my sandbox CVS....(Kept getting error messages from cvs.drupal.org when trying to upload the new version).
