Hello Everyone,

Using Drupal for the first time. Want to know something about the module compatibility. Something like a list showing all versions of Drupal along with all modules compatible with the each version. Will be very useful for me.

Can anyone please recommend me the best version of Drupal, for providing maximum Social Networking and Community modules compatibility. Awaiting quick replies. Thank you.

Modules are numbered to match the major version of drupal they work with. That is, modules numbered 5?.?? work with d5 and modules numbered 6?.?? work with D6, etc. You can filter for major version right on the modules download page. You can also search for modules at http://drupalmodules.com.

WorldFallz,

Thank you. That link is of immense use. If you could give me some information regarding what could be the best version, which i could rely upon to use modules which are basically used for developing Social Networking sites, it would be very helpfull for me again.

And indeed, "Search is my Best Friend".

At this point, which version to use is entirely a function of whether or not all the modules you need have been or are in the progress of, being updated for d6. The major laggards at this point are the project.* and ecommerce modules. Although both the major ecommerce ones now have initial d6 releases. If you modules are available d6 is the way to go.

For more info on social networking see Michelle's excellent site: http://socnet.shellmultimedia.com.

Got your point. But after going through the Modules and their availability status (Version supported), it's strange ,but had to conclude like Drupal v6 lacked Modules for the purpose i had previously mentioned when compared to v5, which has much more of those modules( recommended). Hope i'm not wrong.

And what does 'Development Snapshot' and 'Recommended' got to do with the versions of Drupal they support. Knowing this may urge me think about using version 6 a bit more.

And what does 'Development Snapshot' and 'Recommended' got to do with the versions of Drupal they support.

Nothing-- they are just designations and can be applied to any version. "recommended" is what the maintainer recommends. "dev snapshot" is a development version. dev versions vary from module to module but usually maintainers will indicate when they simply can't be used. I always try them if a release is not available-- and help with the port.

As for the 'lack' of d6 modules-- that's a bit misleading. Each new version of drupal will often incorporate one or mode contrib modules (ie update_status), so those will not be ported. Also, as large contribs like cck and views progress (and new ones are created) many single purpose modules become obsolete and therefore won't be ported.

According to Michelle's excellent site, most of the d6 modules are ready or nearly so-- and that's as of sept. I'm sure even more progress has been made.
