Dynamic Rendering module is not yet available for drupal 6
Signwriter is a good option for my current project, but as it relies on the GD2 image toolkit I suspect I may run into some problems with letter-spacing on more unusual fonts, as is described here:

so I will be interested in the update of 'Dynamic Rendering' for drupal 6.
in the mean-time I will stick with SignWriter...

The only way modules move from dev to official release is when members of the community who are interested in the module install it and help test it. If rendering does not yet have an official d6 release yet, it would seem that participation has stalled somewhat. That said however, there are a couple of hundred people using the dev version so it would seem to be at least somewhat stable.

dev version seems to work fine
I thought the same after my last post and am now using the 6.x-1.x-dev of Dynamic Rendering module to replace header title using siFR2 and actually it seems to be working fine!
I will record any issues against the project if I find them.
