I'm looking for a way to share users across multiple sites on different servers. I know Liferay does this, but I would prefer to have this feature as part of the CMS. Can Drupal do this? If so, how?

Thanks for pointing out that page, it does have some interesting discussions about this topic. Any idea if there are equivalent solutions for Drupal 6.x somewhere in the documentation/discussions? This page appears to be only for 4.x.
